 Kindergarten - 1st Grade Learning Activity

Week 1: 

Agusta Savage

Students will view the video about artist Agusta Savage entitled “In Her Hands”. Students will then discuss the video and artist with a family member. Please click on the link below.

Week 2:   

Students will look online for 3 dimensional artwork by artist Agusta Savage. After looking at her art, students will write 3 sentences on what they like or don’t like about her artwork. 

Week 3:  

Students will write an informal letter to artist Agusta Savage. This letter will explain to her why they like her artwork, or why they do not. This unit has been focusing on 3-Dimensional art. Students should use vocabulary and terms they have been talking about in this art unit. Students can also research Agusta Savage online for more information, and examples of her work

2nd - 5th Grade Learning Activity 

Week 1: 

Venn Diagram (Compare and Contrast)

Step 1: Students will look at the two art pieces and analyze them. The 3 Dimensional Sculpture on the left was created by artist Woodrow Nash. The image on the right is a sculpture created by artist Agusta Savage.

Step 2: Students will draw a Venn diagram, and find 7 things that are the different in each artwork, and make a list of differences in circle under the artwork.

Step 3: Students will the use Venn diagram and find 7 things that are the same, and make a list of differences under the artworks circle.

Week 2:

Compare and Contrast Paragraphs

Students will use Venn diagram information from last week’s lesson, as a tool to write two a paragraphs. The first paragraph comparing the two 3 Dimensional art.  The second paragraph will be writing a paragraph about the differences in the two 3Dimensional pieces.  Students should make sure they use key facts from their Venn diagram. 

Week 3:

Students will write an informal letter to one of the artist we have been studying during our virtual learning lessons. Students will select from one of the two sculptors Woodrow Nash or Agusta Savage. This unit has been focusing on 3-Dimensional art. So students may want to reflect on various terminology during this unit in their writings. Students will write an informal letter to one of the artist, telling them why they like their 3 dimensional sculptures. Students can also research their favorite sculptor online for more information, and examples of their work.
