Welcome to Mrs. Benton's
Art Class

Welcome to Mrs. Benton's Art class! I've had the honor of serving as Marbut Theme School's Art Teacher for the past 13 years. As a native Georgian, I fell in love with art at an early age. Recieving my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Art Education from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA. , as well as obtaining my degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 2001, I bring with me a wealth of experience and knowledge to our students.

Growing up the daughter of two educators had a huge impact on my decision to become an educator.  It is my belief that the fine arts help develop key learning components such as higher order thinking, critical thinking, self-discipline, problem solving, and most of all self-confidence. I chose to be an art teacher because I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives through my passion for art. I love finding the potential in my students that sometimes they can’t see in themselves. Here at Marbut, I've had the opportunity to positively impact hundreds of lives every week through art. One of the greatest accomplishments for me as an educator is being able to touch so many lives doing something I truly love.

As a Visual Artist, with a catalog of more than a hundred personal works, I'm always fascinated by the creative process. The idea of how one mark leads to the next, as my drawings develop, has always kept me enjoying the visual arts. This same joy I strive to bring to my students in my class through their artworks.  One of the greatest accomplishments as educators is touching and affecting our students lives. I look forward to working with you and your children during the 2019 - 2020 school year.
